BMW launches sports utility vehicle X1

New Delhi, Dec 23 (IANS) German luxury car manufacturer BMW's Indian subsidiary Thursday launched its compact-sports utility vehicle (SUV) X1 with the price range of Rs.22 lakh to Rs.29.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

'X1 is a modern vehicle that for the first time brings premium BMW characteristics into compact vehicle segment,' BMW India's president Dr. Andreas Schaaf said.

According to him, the SUV will be preferred by customers looking for leisure activities and lifestyle vehicles.

X1's three variants which were launched includes X1 sDrive18i (petrol), X1 sDrive20d (diesel) and luxury model X1 sDrive20d Exclusive (diesel).

The SUV is powered by four-cylinder diesel/petrol engine with turbocharger with variable intake geometry and common-rail fuel injection system and is equipped with six-speed automatic transmission.

According to the company, the car has top of the line fuel efficient engine which gives 15.24 km per litre mileage for diesel variety and 11.24 km per litre mileage for the petrol model.

Schaaf further said that the company had registered 1,000 orders for the car.

'We have 1,000 orders for the X1 and we are sold out for the first quarter of the next year,' Schaaf said, adding that the SUV will bring in volume numbers for the company.

He added that the company has registered a growth of 60 percent and the capacity of the car manufacturer's Chennai plant was raised from 5,400 to 8,000 units per annum this month to meet the rising demand.
